Abraham

Jan 2016

Such matchless faith
to abandon all
– affluence, estates and patriarchal standing,
in Ur of the Chaldees,
to respond to the call
of the Divine
to leave for an unnamed destination
in the desert lands beyond!

Rising above the tide of opposition
from family, friends and community
who questioned his sanity and better judgement,
Abraham packed camels, horses and mules,
and set forth with family,
moving in faith
along uncharted paths
in the vastness and emptiness of the wilderness.

Intrepid, unwavering,
trusting in the providence
of God alone
enduring the remorseless sun by day
and the chill of the wind
under the stars,
he never doubted
the Lord’s promises,

Until he moved
the heart of God,
who showered on him
His largesse and blessing
and for his matchless faith
Abraham became the friend of God
and father of a great nation;
through him today
all families of the earth are blessed.

Genesis 12:1-9
