Ang Mo Kio Chinese Methodist Church (AMKCMC) had its humble beginnings in 1978 when a team of about 30 leaders and members from Paya Lebar Chinese Methodist Church came to Ang Mo Kio new town to evangelise and plant a new church. Fellowship meetings and worship services were held in a semi-detached house at No. 24 Mayflower Rise, rented by Ang Mo Kio Methodist Church (AMKMC) of Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC).
The General Conference (GC) of The Methodist Church in Singapore undertook to build the church building at our present site, which has housed AMKCMC (Chinese Annual Conference), AMKMC (TRAC) and Ang Mo Kio Tamil Methodist Church (Emmanuel Tamil Annual Conference, ETAC) since completion of the church building in 1981. We had our first worship service in the new church building on 12 Apr 1981, and AMKCMC was instituted as a local conference on 24 Oct 1982.
The continued membership growth and ministry expansion of the three co-housed local conferences compelled us to jointly redevelop the church building to serve our members and the Ang Mo Kio community. In 2010, we commenced the new church building development project together with brothers and sisters from ETAC and TRAC. We held our first worship service in the redeveloped church building on 2 Dec 2012.
Over the past 34 years, AMKCMC has developed and grown in serving the needs of our members and the Ang Mo Kio community.
We began with a traditional Sunday worship service at 9 a.m. in 1982. With growing numbers of youth and young adults, we established a second Sunday worship service (11 a.m.) on 12 Jul 1998. We also have worship services for children at 9 a.m. on Sundays, emphasising and teaching the children to worship God from young.
As a GC church, we partnered AMKMC to develop the Hokkien dialect ministry and started the “Lai Bai Sheng” fellowship in Aug 2007, which was established in 2014 as the Hokkien worship service at 3 p.m. on Saturday with an average attendance of 100 people. In 2014, we also started the Saturday evening worship service at 5 p.m. to cater to Ang Mo Kio residents and the needs of brothers and sisters who have to serve on Sunday.
We conduct Bible classes on Sundays and the weekdays for all our members – children, youth, young adults, adults and seniors – to ensure our faith is built upon and rooted in the Word of God. We provide pastoral care to our members across all ages and encourage them to participate in the various cell groups (CGs) in the age-based ministries. Our desire is for CG members to volunteer for service in the church, to be involved in outreach activities and programmes, as well as to evangelise in the community or go on short-term mission trips together.
On 1 Jul 2013, AMKCMC partnered with the Methodist Welfare Services to launch the “Bless Ang Mo Kio” programme. It consists of social concerns projects and financial aid to help needy families in the community, as well as outreach projects to encourage interaction among residents and the church. We pray that through the Bless AMK programme, we are able to bless the community and to demonstrate God’s love for them.
By God’s grace and in faith together with the strong support of the Methodist churches at large, we trust that Almighty God will lead us to accomplish the mission of making disciples of all nations.

We continue our series of profiling local churches from our three Annual Conferences of The Methodist Church in Singapore. As we come to have a better understanding of each other’s history and ministry, we may discover more opportunities to forge cross-church partnerships and collaborations.
