PAYA LEBAR METHODIST GIRLS’ SCHOOL (SECONDARY) or PLMGS (S) has been conferred the School Excellence Award. It is the highest accolade from the Ministry of Education – to date, only 24 schools in Singapore have been given this award.
Receiving the award is an honour and represents public recognition of the good work done by the school over the years. e conferment of the award on Sept 12, 2012 pays tribute to sound educational practices and is a testament to the hard work of both staﬀ and pupils in PLMGS (S). e school recognises that this is only possible through the grace and favour of the Lord.
Its principal, Ms Pamela Yoong, said in her message to the school that “this award belongs to all 96 batches of PL-Lites and all who worked in PL since 1916”.
This is also a legacy for the next generation to continue to serve with love and to always honour God. PLMGS (S) is a school of excellence because it is a school that exists to do His will.
When the school leaders and staﬀ were planning for 2012, God showed them that this would be a year of praise and rejoicing for PLMGS (S). us they chose “Together We Praise” as the theme for the year and Psalm 96:1-3 as their theme verse, in line with PLMGS (S) celebrating its 96th anniversary this year.
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise His name; proclaim His salvation day after day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvellous deeds among all peoples. (Psalm 96:1-3 NIV).
In His sovereignty, the Lord had planned that 2012 would be a year where His Name would be praised and His Glory would be shown.
PLMGS (S) recognises the work of its principals, sent as faithful servants of the Lord to lead and guide the school:
• Mrs Winnie Tan, who was principal from 1972 to 1996, and served with unabated passion and visionary leadership;
• Mrs Lee Siew Choo, who was principal from 1997 to 2009, and kept the school abreast of the changing times while placing a high premium on character education;
• Ms Pamela Yoong, the current principal who took over the reins from 2010, and whose far-sightedness has been instrumental in the success of the school, even as she lives out the values that the school teaches.
The service of all these leaders were marked by the common faith they have in God, their unwavering commitment to the school and their intense love for its people.
To many staﬀ, students and alumna, PLMGS means “the Place where the Lord Makes His Glory Shine”. It has always been their home since the time they were students, a place where their teachers, colleagues, mentors and students are their family. ey feel privileged to be in this loving and close-knit family, and it is their prayer that PLMGS (S) will continue to serve the Lord and be a place where His Glory will shine and His Name be lifted high.

Top MOE award for Fairfield Primary
FAIRFIELD METHODIST SCHOOL (PRIMARY) or FMS (P) has been given the School Distinction Award by the Ministry of Education (MOE). e award recognises high-achieving schools with exemplary school processes and practices.
The MOE made the announcement in a press statement dated Sept 12, 2012, the same day that the award was presented at the MOE Work Plan Seminar.
The school has also attained all three possible Best Practice Awards (BPA) from the MOE: BPA for Teaching and Learning, BPA for Student All-Round Development, and BPA for Staﬀ Well-Being. is is a rare achievement for a primary school. In addition, it has been awarded the Singapore Quality Class by SPRING Singapore.
FMS (P) aspires to equip each Farsian (as its students are known) with knowledge and skills for the new workplace while placing paramount emphasis on character-building and a strong sense of identity and rootedness. Its mission is: “To provide a holistic education in a Christian environment so as to nurture leaders of good character; equipped to serve God, nation, community and school.”
The school values of integrity, respect, resilience and service drive the culture of care in FMS (P). Beginning with school leadership and permeating to staﬀ expectations and pupil outcomes, role-modelling of school values is a hallmark of the Fairfield culture.
FMS (P) teachers believe that they have the autonomy and the ability to make a positive diﬀerence to each child’s life. e school’s focus on teacher competency has resulted in progressive teacher development and a spike in teachers’ confidence in their professional practice.
