Aldersgate Hymn Festival
IN KEEPING WITH THE THEME of Aldersgate Convention 2012 – “The Spirit- Filled Life” – the Hymn Festival will focus on chapters 2, 4 and 5 of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.
Reflections on “ The Giver of Life”, “ The Indwelling of the Spirit” and “ the Unity of the Spirit” will be highlighted at the festival.
Under the segment “ e Giver of Life”, an anthem entitled “The Breath of Life” traces the creation of the world through the Spirit of God.
“The Indwelling of the Spirit” invites the Holy Spirit to live in each worshipper, and “bring the glorious liberty from sorrow, fear, and sin”.
With the Spirit’s indwelling, believers are joined to become the body of Christ. is point is emphasised in “ e Unity of the Spirit”.
As with last year’s Hymn Festival, lay participation will be significant, especially in the reading of Scripture. e singing of Wesleyan hymns will be accompanied by the organ, a brass quintet and a timpani.
The children’s choirs of Paya Lebar Chinese Methodist Church and Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church (TACMC) will be part of the bigger choir numbering about 70 singers, which will be led by the TACMC adult and youth choirs. e children’s choirs will also sing a special Wesleyan hymn in Mandarin text, set to contemporary Chinese music.
Other choirs are encouraged to join the main choir. Please call Ms Judith Mosomos at the Methodist School of Music or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested.
The two-hour Hymn Festival, to be held at Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church 2 (TA 2) on May 27 at 7.30 pm, will round off the Aldersgate Convention. e other events are the Aldersgate Service on May 24 at 7.45 pm, and two rallies on May 25 and 26, from 7.45 pm to 9.45 pm each night.
